Flashing a Zgemma H7

I have a Zgemma H7 box with Openvix Image 5.3.039 I wish to update to new 5.4.003 image using my flash usb drive I've downloaded the new image H7 and put this on the usb I'm following the guide from this site. Each time I try to flash my box it just boots. What folders need to be on the usb names and contents please if someone can assist (H7 folder contains image version, kernel.bin and rootfs.tar.bz2)

Assuming a storage device connected to the box, try the easier mode
menu -> setup -> vix -> image manager ->press yellow to download (select openvix 5.4.003 -> after download press blue to flash

@adm has given the simplest answer if your box is still working.

If you want to stick to your original plan and flash from USB with the bootloader you must download the OpenViX image version with "recovery" in the name.
You end up with just "disk.img" and "imageversion" in the "h7" folder.

Flashing and updating are two different processes. You have to flash, not update.

@adm has the detailed the simplest method to flash.

But if your box doesn't have a hard drive in it or isn't connected to the internet then...

The USB stick needs to be 8GB or less and formatted as FAT32.

The h7 folder needs in be in a zgemma folder that is on the USB stick.

Hold the front panel button in as you apply power and continue holding it in until you see FLSH on the front panel display.
Then wait until you see Boot on the display again (it takes several minutes).

Even vu boxes can be done by this method. Much easier and you dont need to get out of the armchair.

There are 3 methods of updating

i) Software update - menu -> system -> sofware update BUT usually when there is a major change you have to USB reflash or use image manager.
ii) Use image manager as detailed in post #2
iii) Download the new image to a PC, unzip the image, put it on a USB stick and then insert the USB stick in the box and follow the re-flash documentation.

I beg to differ. Your examples only show 1 updating method. The other two are flashing methods.


To complicate things further, there was a partition change on the Zgemma's in the last few months that requires a flash by USB.

Was the partition change only for VIX because with openatv on zgemma h9 combo I can still flash on the fly i,e, flash online. And I can still flash online and offline via multiboot menu.

I did try software update on the 26 or 27th that screwed my machine ended up with red boot light, had to use recovery from usb to get me back to multiboot menu then I flashed a backup that was on my hard drive seen a few people talking about failed update on zgemma h9 combo on openatv forum.

No will be for all images. Another change by Zgemma has been the box model changes too.

I don't know what you mean by Multiboot menu. I have a Multiboot Image Selector screen. Is that what you mean? If so, see the thread on PLI about the non-booting if receiver is not using the correct slots.

The word "recovery" is misleading as it has nothing to do with recovery. However, it does contain the partitioning changes when applicable.

On one of the other forums you frequent, there is a dislike for updating which is generally baseless. Whether you flash the latest image or update to the latest image, you will fetch the latest image files. However, some files are not part of image.

ofgwrite (this is what is used by flash online (ATV), image manager (Vix), flash image (Pli) ) does not touch the partitioning stuff or even the manufacturer logo.
