Hi
Is it possible to set up remotestream outside home network?
You could use a service such as DynDNS which will set-up a DNS name that resolves to the current address (that's a chargeable service) and use that name.
You'd also need to enable the incoming call on your router.
At that point your system will be accessible to everyone anywhere on the Internet - and it will get probed and used (there are several threads noting this on the forum).
So you really need to use a VPN.

Has anyone managed to use remotechannelstream converter plug in over WAN?
Like @Birdman says you really need to be using VPN.

Ive had it working but it was very glitchy due to my poor upload speed talktalk provide me with
im switching to virgin at some point this year.
It's a wise idea to change the default password and there is an app on playstore called "transcoding for xtrend" that works well for streaming.
You would connect to your WAN ip and set the router to port forward to your box.
But as mentioned a VPN would be better.
Well that is the thing. I have that app which i use for streaming and transcoding outside the box. So what i do is when i want to use it, i log into my router settings and open the relevant port. (I always disable it when not in use). This then forwards the relevant ports for me to watch on my phone or tablet remotely.
But i can not get this to work with remotechannelstream converter. I type the wan ip address but it does not download any boqeuts. I need to try look into it more.
Thanks
If i remember correctly you do have to set a password / change the default password before you can stream over the net.
Have you changed your default root password?
Hi, I have used remotechannelstreamer to connect a vu+ zero in Spain to a vu+duo in the UK, both openvix 4.1.012. UK upload speed is 16mbits and Spain download is 30mbits (both fibre). To connect the two I have two raspberry PI2s running Openvpn.
I have tested the PI2s and they are capable of sustaining a 26mbit crypt/decrypt connection via a udp tunnel. Even though there are about 16 hops between the two and a latency of 70ms between the UK and Spain the SD channels are almost faultless, maybe .5 second glitch once an hour, HD is more glitchy, about 20 seconds of little glitches per hour. It seems to need 4mbits for SD and about 8-10mbits for HD.
The one thing I haven't found yet is how I can control the buffer sizes at the vu+ zero end, I'd trade a slightly slower response zapping for a solid HD picture.
You can't.
Decoding is done in hardware and the stream is supposed to be without any interruption (which it normally is when using a tuner, but which is never the case when streaming via internet).
That's the very reason 'transcoding' has been invented.

I apologise for all my grammar, spelling and idiom errors.
OK thanks, that kind of explains why I can't use timeshift and why local recordings have the glitches in them. That said it's a great way of watching TV when I'm in Spain. Might experiment with the transcoding on the Duo2 to see how that performs.
