Newbie: How do I flash Bootloader ?

    Hey Guys,
I've got a duo on the way and want to read up on flashing before the box arrive.

    1) Am I right in saying that the first thing I need to do to the box is flash the bootloader ?
Is this the same process as flashing the image ?

    2) Do I need to update the bootloader when updating to a new Vix image ?

    3) Can I install a Harddrive after installing the image or does it need to be done prior ?

    4) Lastly, Is there anything else that I need to do ?

    Thanks in advance !!

depends where you are buying from but if its from the sponsor it will already have the latest bootloader, once you have the latest bootloader there is no need flash it again when you change images

Actually I am pretty sure it will be, here in Germany the use of sat receivers is pretty standard and not a niche product, so there is a pretty constant turnover of products - that's one of the reasons Sky (Germany) have had so may problems in trying to convince people to a) give up their normal sat receivers and b) pay for channels.

Probably a pretty good purchase at €299 plus postage

yes its the exact same procedure to flash the bootloader as to flash a image, and even if the bootloader has already been flashed which is likely, it wont hurt to do it again to make certain. as for the HDD that can be done at any time but i'd do that first ( as long as it's either new or freshly formatted to FAT32 via a pc if older, once the image is loaded initialize the HDD via the receiver it self ).

question 4, well that depends on what exactly you want out of the receiver.

But still the question remains, how to flash the bootloader?
Is this also with the USB stick?
Where can we find the latest bootloader?

    Thanks!

Flashing bootloader is the same as an image, also with a USB stick.

    Bootloaders can be found at
    http://openvix.co.uk/index.php?dir=Bootloaders/

extract zip file to USB stick formatted as FAT32

what the hell? i used blackhole till now, i wish to install openvix latest img. thing is i cant flash the bootloader.
I've downloaded latest bootloader from here: http://www.world-of-satellite.com/en...r=Bootloaders/ and copy the files correctly on my microsd with usb 2.0 adapter.
Inserted on the front panel -> reading usb, reprogramming, reboot.
Username and password for root remains the same... CCcam settings too...!!
The folders are still there, (not as many) but they are there... what i'm doing wrong?

You need to flash the image after the bootloader.

yes because all you did was update the bootloader it self, you then must flash a image to the receiver which will erase the previous image in the process.
