is it me or does the remote suck big time? half the times i have to hit the keys twice or more, its annoying. its fine from real close to the box. tried replacing the batteries, same result.

Did you replace with brand new batteries - it needs a clear line of sight to the front, I think the IR reciever is slightly recessed proabbly thats why

god this is annoying...
i have to point the remore right at the box or else it wont work. any deviation stops it from working.
could it be the image/drivers? im still running the gecko image, didnt have time to swap yet
Tried with et9000 (diff box I know, but wouldn't think there'd be much difference?!), and that worked great at any position. Pointing at wall behind me, andwhere in room worked...

As you know I have the ET5 and working fine here, even on slight angles its changing channels etc. I don't think the darkened persplex helps and the IR receiver on the box might be slighrly recessed because of it but nothing to worry, changes channels for me no problems.
I see you have changed batteries, try with duracell rather and see if that helps.

i've got the same problem on the 9000 i have to press the life out of the remote buttons and aim directly at the sensor otherwise there's no response, this was one of the gripes i had about the box in another thread.

Do either of u have bright light on the box? As sometimes, i've had bright sunshine on the box at the ir part, which hads caused problems. But when the sun has moved off, it works fine.
Other thing canthackit, isn't urs in a cabinet or summat? That is probably causing some problems?!

well you've hit the nail on the head mate
yes it's in a drawbridge cabinet (i suppose hence one of the reasons for the heat build up)
but for the time being with the drawbridge down, i suppose in all honesty there is sunlight being thrown across the room and so ultimately across the front of the unit.

a darkened perspex cover in front of the remote or receiver LED'S would have no effect on the infra red beam sent or received, in fact it actually helps. as pooface pointed out however a bright light in the path of the IR beam can very easily interfere with the signal.
