Openwebif is a plugin that runs within enigma2. If Enigma2 crashes, it won't work. You are better off communicating directly with the the linux OS instead going through OWIF or through enigma2, it is also just an application. You can try this scenario by stopping enigma2 with "init 4" command and then see whether OWIF works.
You can enable the telnet client in windows or use putty. Mac and Linux have terminal. Even if box has stalled, you can issue a reboot command. Link to guide in my signature if you need it.

Generally speaking Enigma2 crashes, loops or hangs. The Linux OS is 99.999% of the time still running.
Just come back home from long day out and the box won't turn on even with putty, telnet, init 4 doesn't work.
No problem Sir. Have a look for threads by Trial, there is a more robust command.
Have you raised the box and given it more air flow
