    Question Astra UHD demo

    Hi,

Has anyone managed to get a picture through on this channel? I'm getting audio only.

I have a 4K TV and the Mega is supposed to have HEVC so I can't understand why there is no picture.

having HEVC does not imply 4K.
its a codec, so you likely be able to play x265 encode files on there.

    Astra UHD demo

H265 could be used for some iptv, I will contact Edision and ask the question. Not sure if this model is capable of viewing 4K and outputting 1080p. Sure they will give a proper technical explanation.

Thank you Sicilian, I'm just thinking about the future-proofing aspect. I received the OS Mega yesterday and saw the H265 and (ass)umed it would be capable of 4k!

H265 does not mean a receiver is capable of viewing 4K broadcasts. That's if we ever get any 4K channels.

You can couple the Mega with a DROID C32 and 4K channels.

I've recently encoded some old DVD-Video disks in HEVC, you can use it for what you want.
As the codec becomes more efficient and professional more and more IPTV suppiers will use it, Sky will probably use it for all their channels if you take their internet only TV service in the future.

I can pick it up on my 4K tv on freesat channel 998, now if only somebody would start broadcasting something worth investing in a 4K sat box for

The Next Series of Stan Lee's Lucky man will be on Sky in UHD, They already have Premier League Football on in UHD and movies are on the Way with Spectre reported to be amongst the first... Why not invest in Sky Q? If you are expecting that sort of content to be available on an E2 box in 4K you may be disappointed.

That's the point I was making I'll be sticking with my duo 2. As for sky q until they have a full time broadcast 4K channel I won't be paying them the £12 a month extra that you have to pay for the small amount of content they show I'll stick with Netflix, Amazon and ultra hd blu ray.

    Future proofing ?.

Before 4K becomes the industry standard in the U.K your new satellite receiver will be long dead and buried so no need to worry too much about future proofing. Hell HD still is not the U.K standard yet and won't be until they turn off ALL SD content and that wont happen for at least 10 to 20 years knowing how bloody slow this country is to fully adopt new tech.

Just had a look at some h265 files and I agree, they are much better quality compared to the h264 variety so hopefully more content will be available soon.
