Streaming from OpenWebif asks for username password for realm streamserver

I know this is embarrassing, because I have seen this error before and managed to fix it, but for the life of me I cannot remember how.

Earlier today I allowed my Vix system to perform a Software Update, so it has changed to build 131. No I can no longer stream from OpenWebif to my PC with VLC 2.1.5

I am prompted for HTTP authentication. I have tried this turned off and on in the settings but it appears to make no difference.

I thought my settings auto backed up and the config file suggests so for both image and settings but when I looked at my enigma backup file it states a date of 10.09.2015 so have no reliable way of telling when it was actually created! I have tried to restore the enigmasettings file but it says it is incompatible with this version.

I have also tried this with quicktime and get the same login request.

I don't necessarily have to go back if only I could go forward and recover my streaming settings. I have reset the password using DCC and then root passwd command

pembo. You are a star. Thanks very much. I tried searching the whole forum for this 'extra' information. I need to add this to my favourite threads so I can find it again NEXT time.

and are you confident that the root credentials you're using are correct?
Can you telnet to the box and login using those credentials?

    Absolutely, yes

I can telnet to the box and login. I can also authenticate to open webif. I can open a transcoded stream on port 8002 using vlc and authenticate. But I cannot authenticate for the tcp port 8001 stream

and if you turn off the authentication on the streams from the customise menu it then works?

Have you tried changing your root password to something else with just ASCII characters in, and then testing again to see if this then works?

If I turn off the authentication on the streams from the customise menu it does indeed work.

I tried chaning the password as you suggested but the problem remains

Did you ever resolve this? I've got the same issue and don't particularly want to leave my streams open.

Box username and password (root/password) don't work for streaming authentication, but streaming works when authentication is turned off.

Is there any follow up on this???

This issue is still there in OpenVix4 and no matter what I do I cannot get the streams to work when http authentication is set to yes.
Once it is set to NO it streams fine!

I have tried with the root user and also setup another user using telnet and it is still the same! Cannot stream once http authentication is activated...
