I can flash the new boot loader, and then flash Vix 2.3. All works OK and the box runs OK

However if I try to restart it it just hangs on the first 'page'.

I did a force reflash of the boot loader using a different stick, flashed Vix 2.3 again - same problem

I have also tried flashing the latest Clarke-Tech image, but I get the same problem. i.e box works after flash until I reboot it.

(I should say that this is box 2, I did box 1 on Sunday, and it works OK -apart from not being able to make a backup image)problem?

I would be grateful for any suggestions as to how to overcome this problem.

DO you have anything else connected such as a HDD, if so try it with unplugged and see what happens.

I have now disconnected the HD, and everything except the HDMI cable. Still won't boot,

leave the network cable in there and download a fresh copy of the image and reflash in case image got corrupted in download.

Are you sure the bootloader was updated?

What do you mean by forced flash?

I have tried 3 different Vix images that I have downloaded. One of which + the boot loader are working on my other box.

The box displays ET9x00 and looks for images in et9x00 so I assume that I am using the new boot loader.

By Force Flash, I mean pressing CH- on the front panel to flash the boot loader again (I think the loader on the stick gets ignored if you try to flash the same one twice just by pressing OK.)

If you have no other usb devices connected, the box will automatically see the image and ask you to press OK flash, if your not getting this, is the folder structure correct?

For images yes, for boot loaders the box finds the loader but appears to ignore it if you just press OK.

its a very quick flash, no way near the length of an image. obviously the new image is in the9x00 format, bit stumped why you are having the problem

Lets just go back to basics and redo everything in the unlikely event you have missed a step out.

Go to the VIX 2.3 release thread and download both the image and bootloader.

Unzip the BL and put it on to the USB and reflash. The file you need is called ET9000, its the 2nd folder in. Dont bother wiht the MAC one that can be deleted. Once transferred to the USB check that there are only three files inside it.

Once completed do the same with the image.

One other think you could try is to switch and leave the box off for a minute and see if it boots.

It can take up to a minute before all caps discharge in the box

Thanks very much for all your help.

I have verified that the stuff I put on the USB sticks is correct by comparing the files with other downloads, and I have repeated the process, so I am fairly certain that I have just run into the same problem as Cameltoe and Torsven. I will try the supplier!

Not quite on this topic, but still about bootloaders and the 2.3 image.

When I got ET9000, I flashed the new at the time bootloader 2011-07-19 (UBIFS).
If I understood it correctly, it was not really needed for the 2.2.1 image but was supposed to be needed with the new kernel later, with the new upcoming 2.3 image (and also to solve the image size limitations).
So can I load the 2.3 image with that bootloader or do I need the newest bootloader, the one that comes together with the 2.3 image?

yes you need to use the bootloader that is in the 2.3 release thread due to the changes xtrend made to the way the image works.
