Newzbin 2 blocked on Sky Broadband

Sky has blocked the file-sharing website Newzbin 2 after being required to do so in a court order.

A statement issued by Sky Broadband said the broadcaster had invested billions of pounds in content and it was imperative to help content companies protect their copyright.

“Increasingly content owners are turning to the courts to present evidence of copyright theft by those websites who offer content illegally to users,” said Sky. “When they do so, and the court agrees that copyright theft has occurred, content owners can seek a court order which can compel internet service providers (ISPs) to block access to those sites over their broadband networks”.

Sky Broadband customers have been unable to access Newzbin 2 since December 13. Sky said it would continue to take appropriate action in respect to site blocking, including complying with court orders.

In October the Motion Picture Association secured an order to force BT to also block the site.
