To run 64bit you need dual core processor at least the advantage of 64bit operating system is it will use both processors properly so in theory should run faster versus 32bit
SLOTH (13-10-10)
the main reasons to use 64 bit over 32 is
1- 32bit operating system can only see and utilize a total of 3 GB of memory even if u have more than this fitted in your system.
2- for the new 64 bit software as to have files larger than 2 GB.

thanks guys
i currently have a core 2 duo E4500 processor .. with 4gig ddr 2 and a gt9800 Nvida graphics card ... i run 32bit win 7 and always thought it was a Hardware thing 32 v 64 ..

mate
so are you saying that nothing uses it ? not graphics card nothing ? ... man thats right pissed me off LOL what a waste !
Sloth
sorry for that m8
but it is the ugly truth, 32 bit systems don't use or utilize more than 3 gigs
if u look at ur system description, u'll find it saying RAM is 3 GIG
Nah thats just it ...it doesnt say that ...it says 4 gig ! how can i get a screen shot of the page and i,ll post it ? ...
look here for a more detailed answer
Hi mate
thanks for that ...but i dont have a clue what its going on about LOL !! ...and it doesnt mention windows 7 ?
sloth
it will see the 4 but will only address 3

Your CPU is 64bit, so in effect you could install 64bit operating system and use all your 4GB ram.

As already stated a 32bit operating will only see 4gb of memory not 3gb as other people have said. However it is a total of 4gb so if your onboard graphics card is 512mb and you have also purchased a 1gb graphics card then that will only 2½ gig left for the OS. The main advantage is that it will run a lot smoother with the 64 bit archetecture. If you install office and other apps be sure to download the 64 bit version as this will utitilise the hardware and run to its full potential.. Now not all software is available in 64bit but you can use the x86 install in compatibility mode. The main thing is that all your drivers that you download need to be the 64bit version. If you are having difficulty obtaining the windows7 64bit drivers, you can always try the Vista 64bit ones. Anyhow I would personally go for 64bit. As browsing the web will be better. Good Luck
Hi guys
thanks for your input so far , another quick question ...is it possible to just install win 7 64 straight over the top of win 7 32 ? and then just clean up whats left when install is done ?
cheers
