If the hdd is in standby, there will be a brief moment where the programme does not record, depending on the startup time of the hdd. The programme is shown on the tv as normal. This does not happen if you have the hdd set to not go to standby, or you record to a usb memory stick...
Also, on recordings (think it happens on both usb memory stick and sata hdd), there is some period of time where there is no sound that shows. This is a problem in the player as far as I am aware...

1 TB Samsung SpinPoint EcoGreen F2 HD103SI
It is a 5400 rpm drive. Perhaps I would have chosen 7200 rpm, but the new drives lying around at my home were all 5400 rpm, mostly 1.5 TB but I found a couple of 1 TB.
That is because I am using them as external eSATA or USB drives instead of blank DVDs, fill them up and put on a shelf, and 5400 rpm run colder (important for external).

I have noticed that the drive gets powered down when the box is in standby, but when the box is put into deep standby, the drive stays spinning and I have to power it off manually. Does anyone else get this strange occurrence ?
I am using a PLI image from the end of May.

Updated my post
just installed a Samsung Spinpoint F3 (EcoGreen) 2TB Hard Drive SATAII 5400rpm 32MB Cache, works fine nice and quiet.
What are the benefits (if any) of getting a hhd with a 64mb cache compared to a lower cache?
in the duo there is not much benefit of the 64mb cache over the 32 or 16 ones.
it might give a small leap in performance when it comes to other applications and games in a pc but not here
WesternDigital 800Gb WD8000AARS, working great with VTi image v2.0
First I Formated with Windows7 to NTFS and copy all my previously recorded videos by DM7020 and a lot of mkv movies .
Than installed in Vu+ and run the following commands on telnet:
first :
umount /mnt/hdd
and than :
mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sda1 /mnt/hdd/
and now read and write perfectly
