    Dreambox 500C

I found an old Dreambox 500C (I think it's a clone) in the loft and have just ordered a 500S tuner for it.

I just want to use it as a development box so as not to keep upsetting the family by playing around with the VU+ Duo.

What would be the best image to put on it and is it fairly straight forward to set up ?

    Cheers

if the tuner is removable then it is a clone as the offitial DM500 was fixed tuner. to be honest the dm500 has so little memory you'd be best of loading a pli image onto it

yes setting up a E1 box is fairly easy enough but if it is a clone you may need to tread carefully as some images can kill the box, also be aware that we do not support cloned boxes here

You have to change the 500C boot file with the sat version, or your new tuner won't be identified.and remember if it is soldered 500C has 32 pins and the 500S has 30 pins, you will also have to jtag the box and flash the alps bootloader

I should have asked before I ordered the tuner LOL I thought it would be fairly straight forward. Never mind I will put the £15 down to experience.

    Cheers for the quick replys.

If it's a soldered tuner it's more trouble than it's worth. I did one but would never do another.
