Your log will show where the issue is. You may wish to just use Filezilla and Putty which will accomplish what you want to do with DCC. This is provided that you are entering details correctly. If you are doing things correctly, you may have discovered a bug that nobody else has.

I use DreamboxEdit 7.2.1.0 (x64) with OpenVix image 5.4.016. The dreamboxEdit settings say HTTP port 80, FTP port 21, user root, password > the default password which is set in the image. >> And it works I can download and upload my channels. Check your password setting in OpenVix - password is mandatory.

Where ever you have set up logging to save them.
as far as i know there is no more default password.You have to set one yourself.even in 5.4
