Use of Left and Right arrows each side of OK

I have asked a question on the forum and not received any help or explanation from anyone as to why these buttons don't work the same as on my TM TM-Nano2 Super in playback mode, despite the fact that both are working with identical software. I have now tried various things, all to no effect. The basic issue is that I would like the Mutant's L and R buttons to work as REW and FF as per the Technomate. In addition to the re-flashing as above, I have tried using both the built in button reassignment facility and MQB, but neither seems to have the capability to program as required. If I use R arrow during playback on the HD51 I get a basically blank box in the centre of the screen but with the digit 5 inserted and highlighted towards the right hand side of the box. Exit removes it. On the TM I get FF by pressing R arrow.

As I said in my post on the forum, I can't understand why a different box, using the same software, works so differently.

Hope you can help with this, as the normal FF and REW buttons are tiny and shit, tucked away between other buttons and make the RC very hard to use.

This is my understanding .... but could be wrong as its not an area I have spent much time on.
The built in button reassignment usually assigns remote keys to specific functions in E2..... and is limited to those functions. E.g. power on/off functions, network assignment, ViX plugin
Manufacturers provide remotes that support features on their box, and depending on the spec and the receivers cost some remotes are pretty minimal and others offer more keys.
These remotes and their key actions are added into E2 from the manufacturer ... and not designed by the Image providers although they can change the supplied setup.... so what happens when you press a key is largely down to the manufacturer.
Most people would use the #### keys you complain about to FF & REW but you have fortunately (for you ) found an alternative.
If you would like to delve deeper into E2, then you can modify the remote setup for the HD51 (which works fine for me) although as commented in many many posts ...it‘s not the best remote in town.... and perhaps you should have noted this if it was so important.
So Yes, if you are willing to spend some time you can modify the manufacturers setup.

Many thanks for your reply, twol. First time I've seen anything sensible on this subject from anyone, although I do appreciate your caveat about not being an area in which you've specialised. As to the spec, the HD51 is definitely not in the cheapo category (much more expensive than my other box) and in general terms it's head and shoulders above the TM in terms of performance, memory, provision for HDD (ie cooling space) and so on. So I'm definitely not complaining about the box per se. It's a great machine in my opinion.

But regarding this simple facility, how is it that a manufacturer can be so stupid as to not include something which is available on many cheaper and less satisfactory boxes as standard? Also, why are the FF and REW buttons omitted from the huge list of buttons which can be re-mapped to the Arrows in E2 using either the built-in facility or via MQB? Why in this day and age do you have to go into the bowels of the software to achieve such a re-mapping? Having said all that, if you or anyone else can give me some clue as to the first steps in doing the latter, I (and my fat fingers) would be very grateful to learn. Ideally though, could someone in the VIX team (who could probably achieve the same thing with much less pain) possibly think about simply adding the FF and REW buttons to the re-mappable buttons list? This would benefit not only me but any other similar/clone boxes of which, from pics I've seen of various remotes, may be many.

If I find time will have a look although whenever I have seen changes in that area, always thought oops looks complicated ..... but not for a while as still on holiday and work waiting when I get back!
The HD51 is a great receiver, especially at current prices but its weakest point is the remote - I was used to Xtrends which always had super remotes, so was also shocked to receive the HD51 and see the basic remote.

I think the remote has been revised since the box release, has it not. Similar in style to an Xtrend?

Thanks again, twol. Personally I don't have a problem with the remote generally - layout is fine and most of the buttons I use are of sensible size and nicely placed. It's just those cursed FF and REW buttons...!
