All that shows is Entire Network. When I expand that I get Microsoft Windows Network. Mshome then shows in the left hand pane. When I click on that I get an error message saying I do not have permission to open it.

Yup, looks like windows settings need work.
It's so simple, just like me
run the network wizard and see how you get on.

I`ve ran the network wizard, still get the same error message about not having permissions. My pc is connected to a router.Do you know what options I should be choosing in the wizard? Also at the end of the wizard it says something about using a disc on all the computers on my network.

Are you logged in as administrator, does your user account have administrative priveleges?

He means the shoutbox, but tbh the shoutbox is really from general chat only, because if a solution is found in the shoutbox, others members dont benefit. So if you guys do find a solution in the shoutbox please make sure its posted in here for other members

In the meantime I need to re-cap on this thread, been busy

    OK, I'm back.
Let's deal with network wizard first.
My user account has full administative priveleges.
Go to control panel and launch "network setup wizard".
See the steps documented in the pics below.

After clicking next in pic 11, you will see the finish button, just click that and the wizard is complete.

The last 2 pics show that as soon as I have finished the wizard, I click on "my network places" and on the right, you will see what is available, and what can be seen when I expand the network.

In windows explorer I right click on drive C, left click on sharing and security.
Click on the bit "if you unerstand the risk, bla bla"
Click on share this folder on the netwrok, then click apply.
So if you apply these settings to whatever drive or folder you wish to share, it should then be visible on your network.
