    How to turn off subtitles

Certain channels have audio subtitles. How do I turn them off permanently on all channels?

Not had this issue. Look in your Audio Language Settings.

I have to do that every time they audio subtitles happen though. It doesn't save.

There must be a way to disable the audio subtitles. This occurs on 4 boxes that I know of

    Try the following

Go to Menu> Setup> System> Auto language selection

Change Audio language selection 1 to English

Change prefer audio track stored by service to No

For the record: I just experienced exactly the same issue on 4.2.026 (yesterday first time - clean - install of openvix on an xtrend 9200 box): no matter what I did I always ended up with subtitles on.

The only change in the settings that fixed it for me was to disable "Allow subtitle language to equal audio language" in the aforementioned audio menu. Then there was still the odd channel that had subtitles enabled but having them disabled is now kept even over a restart.

Appears to me that there is some small quirk lurking in the inky shadows of the audio language selection settings. But as long as we can work around it, it is not more than a quirk. - Or the description of the setting needs some improvement.

    Cheers

I can't seem to find any issue with subtitles. Maybe an exact description of the problem & work-around may help.

I think the posters are referring to audio description rather than actual subtitles.

This is about subtitles and not audio description.

Here is in more detail what I did after a fresh and first time install on my box (like I already mentioned above): selected German as first and English as second language for audio selection and subtitles, left the third and fourth entries as they were. Also selected "All" for"Allow subtitle language to equal audio language".

This resulted in subtitles always on on channels that provide them. Turning subtitles off on a channel would be reset after a GUI restart/power cycle. Then I found that resetting "Allow subtitle language to equal audio language" to its default value "none" turned subtitles on almost all but a couple of channels off. Done.

For that to remain active you would need to switch on 'remember previously..... (or something like that)'.

And where would I do that? There is nowhere an option that would trigger that.

Anyway, this odd behaviour is changed by setting the mentioned option to "none".

The option you need is "Prefer subtitles stored by service". Set it to no. btw it is on the second page of the auto language settings.

I see. Not exactly what I intended but OK.

But first things first: so far thanks to everybody for your help. I appreciate it very much! Especially that you are replying lightning fast! I am not used to that kind of helpful community at all coming from the xtrend-corner of the world - xtrend image first then openxta image, since Dec 2016 left stranded by openxta now finding a new "home" - and hence not being used to prompt and helpful advice.

Anyway I still get the feeling that people who try to help here are not getting my point. Obviously because my description lacks refinement or is incomplete. Let me try to describe the issue I am having in a more precise way:
    1. Fresh install of openvix. Chose the latest release 4.2.026. Did not have openvix ever installed before, no odd configuration files left over from other enigma2-like installations.
    2. In the "Auto language settings" I set first language to German and second language to English for both "Audio language selection" and "Substitle language selection".
    3. Set "Prefer audio track stored by service" to "no". I do not want settings for each channel to be stored separately.
    4. Naturally I chose to set "Allow subtitle language to equal audio language" to "All". Why would I want to have German subtitles when a movie has English audio?
    5. Set "Prefer subtitles stored by service" to "no". I do not want settings for each channel to be stored separately.
    6. This resulted in subtitles being activated on every channel that provides them. Subtitles would be in the language that has been chosen as first language for subtitles in the settings above.
    7. Not what I wanted.
    8. What I wanted: to be able to enable subtitles in German or English language (if provided) whenever I like.

In order to get rid of the omnipresent subtitles I simply did:
    1. Set "Allow subtitle language to equal audio language" to "none".
    2. Subtitles were switched off on all channels.
    3. I can enable subtitles whenever I like.
    4. Exactly what I wanted in the first place.

Why this works is not clear to me since neither the option's name "Allow subtitle language to equal audio language" nor its description "Usually when the subtitle language is the same as the audio language, the subtitles will not be used. Enable this option to allow these subtitles to be used." would explain why. I recommend the following course of action if this option can be singled out to be the culprit:
    1. Correct the option name from "Allow subtitle language to equal audio language" to something that somehow reflects what the option triggers.
    2. Epmphasize in the description of this option on what this option really does.

    Cheers
    T.

I updated to this image yesterday and have not been able to select anything but Subtitled audio and only with or without NAR - no other languages are offered in the AUDIO quick menu.
I have settings as per Wxf audio language settings and i still can't get rid of subtiltes. I can chose between DVB or Teletext subtitles.. but i can't chose none.

Is it possible to have a settings entry named Use/Show (in-vision) Subtitles [YES/NO] (or similar: Subtitles [ON/OFF]) its obcscure in the Allow subtitle language to equal audio language (multiple options including NONE)? My logic being that if i'm interested in Subtitles I will endeavour to configure them approprately for my needs. If i have no need, I simply switch them off or set the option logically to NO.

Nonetheless, the problem atm is that i have NONE selected for the Subtitle languages and NONE for the Allow Subtitle Language to Equal Audio Language, .. after independent, Restart GUI and Restart, and i still get Subtitles (in the language of the audio) in-vision.

Without splitting this thread, NAR and [language] Subtitle SD are the only two language offered in the quick AUDIO (button) menu, for all channels and i can't tell the bix to ignore NAR. For those channels where i select the alternative channel (only the two are in the AUDIO Menu box) i force the subtitles ON - OK they're on already (can't switch them off) but it can't be right to have them selected as the only alternative to NAR (Audio Decription, which i want even less than Subtitles).

Pleae let me know what more information you need to help...
