Question TM NANO SE - cannot update.

This is my first post so please accept apologies if its the wring place or makes no sense.

    I own a NANO SE

I wanted to update the skin to a more SKY looking skin but when i try and update it it throws up an error then reboots. The error is something about sending in log files to WOS.

The same for if I wish to download plugins etc, it errors out with "A background check is in progress" and hangs there forever.

I received this box pre flashed etc, and although I have knowledge of FTP, SSH, TELNET etc, I've never flashed or done anything to this box since getting it.

The box works fine.... all channels work etc. i just cannot update anything and i don't want to break anything by trying something which could potentially be dangerous.

Any ideas on what i could do next?

    Carl.

Stupid Question! Do you have an internet connection? Lan or WiFi? Just wondering why its hanging on the background check
If Yes, have you tried logging into the box with Ftp (eg Filezilla)?
... if you can access via ftp pull the any crash logs off the box.

wow thanks for the quick response. I sure CAN ftp into the box, but like i mentioned I've never done it before and therefore don't know how to get the crash logs or what i do with them once I've actually got them?

What image are you using? Name and build number please. See following thread
    http://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?33155-ALL-MEMBERS-PLEASE-READ!-New-method-of-posting-in-ViX-Support-Section!

The way to see where the fault lies is to update by command line. Commands listed below to be entered one at a time. This is if an update is possible (hence previous question). Image line changes, kernel changes etc affect this.

    Code:
    init 4
    opkg update
    opkg list-upgradable
    opkg upgrade

Easiest thing to do is to
    1. Make a settings backup
    2. Flash/install most recent image. (By USB or Image Manager)
    3. Restore settings and plugins after flashing

    Flashing guides are on openvix.co.uk
Creating a settings backup (as well as image backups) and restoration are covered in the Vix manual as well as the following guides.

Thats your answer. Apollo is no longer supported and the plugin feeds have been turned off for Apollo. You need to update your image (4.1-009 currently the latest) if you wish to use the feeds and benefit from new driver updates etc.

Do a backup first by pressing blue button > ViX > backup manager then green button to save a backup. Then exit one and go into Image Manager > yellow button and highlight and download the latest image (4.1-009) by pressing the green button. After a few minutes when the download is complete, red button to close then highlight the image you have just downloaded and then press the blue button to restore and say yes when prompted to do so.
After the ofgwrite flashing process has been completed, the receiver will reboot and then you will be at the FIW bit. You just then select HDMI, 1080i, Multi, English and then it will prompt you if you want to restore your settings, say YES and click on the backup you made prior to flashing. All done. Then all you need to do is reinstall your plugins, but your cam settings etc will have been restored.
