    HDD Clicking When Recording

    Hi All,

    I have an Xtrend 8000 and have installed a 2.5" 1TB 5400rpm hdd and it's working great.

The only thing I've noticed is that during recording you can hear a clicking coming from the hdd as its recording, it's only subtle but I can hear it...does anyone have any tips on adding a bit of soundproofing to muffle the clicking?

    Thanks - Jason

As above, HDD clicking indicates it is about to fail.

It's a brand new Toshiba P200 hdd, it's not a loud clicking just more the sound of the arm moving over the disk head…ill see if I can get a video of it and on the other hand I could have very sensitive hearing lol

If it's brand new and clicking then I'd get it replaced under warranty! Clicking in a HDD is never a good thing and shouldn't be ignored especially when you can get a replacement under warranty!!

Sorry, dont agree with some of the other posts, I've used Toshiba 2.5" HDD's and are known to slightly click in use. If functioning correctly, recording, initialising etc.. just ignore.

He's probably sensitive to any noise like me, that's why he is asking can he muffle it.
I had a Samsung V+ in my bedroom for about a hour once, that f***er had to go lol.

May sound silly, but did you fit the screws to hold the HD properly in place in the cage? I found it difficult to tighten them due to the position of the cage. Could the noise be vibrating rather than pure clicking of the drive?

Never had this problem. Unscrew cage and take off. Fit hard drive in cage and tighten screws. Put cage back.

Some Toshiba 2.5" HDD inherently click, just the way they are.

Yes I did take the cage out and fully fitted the HDD with the 4 screws and refit it.

Here's a quick video of the sound…might be nothing but just thought I'd ask as I was hearing it
