    Need to upgrade firmware?

    Hi

I have a Vu+ Solo and don't recall upgrading firmware for a while. This is what I have...

    kernel: 3.1.1
    firmware: 3.0.308

Would people suggest it is time to upgrade to more recent firmware?

Also, I would like to access the DailyMotion website to watch videos - can someone suggest the best plugin for doing this, please?

    Thanks

You are on an ancient build. First thing to establish is if your receiver is genuine or a clone? Any noticeable stickers on the rear of the receiver? Something like v1.0, v2.0 or v3.0? If you bought from the sponsor WoS then its genuine.

    Ha! Suspected so!!!

I am 99% sure it is genuine. Can't recall where I bought from, but, it was one of "well known" vendors.

**Update** Just found receipt and it came from "sales@world-of-satellite.co.uk", so, should be OK! It was bought in May 2012.

Do I need to know version before I can determine "best" firmware?

    Thanks

    Arghhhhh!

I have successfully installed the latest Vix firmware and that is fine.

However, what I didn't realise is that this would wipe out everything off the box. So, I've lost all my satellite positions, channels and network settings. Some of these will be easier than others to reinstate, but, the sat positions is a real bummer as this took hours to set up - and I cannot remember exactly what I did. So, back to head scratching.

Hopefully, I can get 28.5 up&running in time for football later!

Anyone know of any good tutorials for setting up multiple satellites on a motorised dish? I have tried USALS, but, I found I could get MUCH stronger signals by manual positioning

In AutoBouquetsMaker, change setup mode to expert mode, enable teh not-indexed channels. When you select your area for Sky UK 28.2, select the area that has "custom" at end of the name.

Did you not make an image or settings backup before flashing the new image?

didn't you have a backup ? The positions are hopefully stored in there.I would reflash backup , copy the necessairy files as channels, bouquets, satelites.xml etc to a PC and sent them back after installing the new image by FTP.Word trying.

It is so long since I did this last time that I completely forgot to take a backup

The only thing I will have are channel settings used by DreamBoxEdit - not sure that will help. The problem is setting the position of each satellite up (28.2, 19, 13, etc.) - USALS is not accurate enough and I had to tweak each one to get best signal. And I've forgotten how I did it!

I tweaked my usals simply by adapthing my coordinates.Installed rotor on right sat (4.8 E and had to be 5.0 ) and for the right position I had to move a little bid.Calculated the right ones and them adjusted them step by step until I had optimal reception on the most used sats.I only use sats from 5 W to 28.2E and worked fine.
