    Vu+ Zero alternatives?

    Hi,

I was thinking of buying Vu+ Zero, but the seller I contacted is trying to convince me to buy Furmuler 3 instead.
He says - both receivers are identical but Furmuler 3 has double memory size.
I looked up the specifications of F3 and I see the same memory size, so perhaps that is not true, or different versions of F3?

However, it seems that Zero has no SPDIF audio out - how could it be? I need it.

On the other hand, Formuler 3 has no ViX image. Or I can't find it.....

So I am at a loss. If only Zero had SPDIF. If only Formuler 3 had ViX image. It does work with OpenPLi though, I'm told.

Anyway, I need a new receiver because already second of my Vu+ receivers is dying. First Duo, now Ultimo. Both the same way - using more and more current and getting hotter and hotter.
Ultimo, when hot, began doing strange things, like blocking the internet for the whole lan, or not opening encrypted channels after a channel change. Or responding very slowly to remote. Worse, suddenly the internal hard drive became empty. Maybe self-re-initialized or something. I made a mistake of running filesystem check with Ultimo itself.
It unexpectedly made some modifications, created missing folders at least. So the chances of recovery of anything from that disk are now even lower.

Duo gone. Ultimo going. How long my Duo2 will last?
And what next receiver to buy to replace Ultimo?

I had enough of expensive dual receivers I don't really need (because I use two receivers anyway with two dishes and two TVs) that do not last. That's why I want to try a cheap single tuner receiver.

Chances of your Ultimo dying are pretty slim. Sounds like a fresh flash would sort out your issues.

You see, I opened it (to disconnect the internal hard drive - I though that perhaps the hard drive was the culprit). So, when it got sluggish after hours of usage again, I touched the heat sink on the main cpu and it is very hot.
I could not keep my fingers on it even for a second. It is not normal.

Why? My Ultimo's are lasting years and no sign of any wear at all.

    Years.
Any doubt about the longevity of the box?

A DUO2? Or plenty other choices.

    Yes it is.
If you want more control over the temperature, you could install 'fancontrol2' from the feeds.
But whatever you do: the heatsink itself will remain hot; that's because it extracts the heat from the SoC and that's exactly what it's supposed to do.

I think my newer revision of the board did not require a capacitor replacement. I think I identified the capacitor in question visually, etc. But I remember vaguely, I might be thinking about a different receiver.

As to Ultimo, if it is normal for the heatsink to be that hot, why it keeps getting gradually more and more sluggish and causing problems?
It is then a memory or cpu leak? I hope not a virus
Is there a way to see the cpu and memory usage in %, perhaps in detail? Via telnet or some other way?

As to Duo2 - I already have it. So far so good. But now I am thinking about a cheaper one tuner but more modern receiver. So Zero came to my mind and I see that Formuler 3 has the same hardware as Zero, but also it has SPDIF.
And perhaps (perhaps not) more memory.

Any advice about Zero / Formuler 3 / or some other choice?

BTW, do I need to replace something on Ultimo and/or Duo2 before it is too late?

Ok, I am trying to see something with top command. But I better go to the Ultimo forum with this topic.

Here, the question is Zero or Formuler 3 or what?

Can't really tell from here, but it's not a known issue.
A fresh setup without restore and no ports forwarded to the box might help.

Yes, it seems no ports forwarded helped
