Have you tried using a swap file ?, normally I advise against such but on receivers at the lower end of the scale such as these or the Vu+ duo / Solo a swap file can help especially with things like EPG which is self can be a very memory hungry application.

Swap file? I've heard of it, but haven't a clue what it does, will have to have a Google.

I'll try anything if it speeds my box up.

    1) Connect a USB stick or HDD.
    2) Initlise with receier.
    3) Blue button > ViX > Swap file manager.

    Simple

You'll find the bouquet EPG screen opening will vary depending what favourites/bouquets list you''re in. You need keep in mind the amount of data that its opening. @ £109 imo pretty much un-beatable value for money.

I'll give it a go, yeah I can't or shouldn't really moan, yeah it's a great price and I'm fairly happy, just wish it was a little snappier, doesn't help when the wife's moaning that it takes to long.

Mabye I'll see how I go on and upgrade to something with more power later on down the line.

That can be a problem with the lower end receivers they might give you all the show and facilities of a more expensive receiver but they have no go lol
i had a Solo2 and decided to get a second receiver so i bought a miraclebox it was a nice twin tuner receiver and did every thing that i needed, but compared to my Solo2 it was so slow i could not get used to it so it had to go
you will get their mate and when you do finally get that Fast receiver you will understand why they are more expensive, but then again i think that you already have

plus if the wife is complaining that gives you a Good Excuse to upgrade

It's a single core box, so will be slightly laggy when doing memory intensive tasks.
Are you using an all channels bouquet? If so, maybe better off not creating that one.

Might be a while before I get to upgrade, only had the box a few weeks.
I was originally going to buy one of the cheaper openbox jobbies, but after hearing about the speed and the price of the Xpeed lx2 decided to stretch my budget a little further.

Would have probably gone for one of the solo 2 boxes if I had my way,but the wife is no teckie by a long way and would of killed me for spending that much money!

Are the solo 2 boxes really fast then at getting the guide up etc?
And if/when I do upgrade to one, hopefully in the future, which one do i need? Just want one where I can watch a channel whilst recording another. Get a bit confused with all the different models.

    TIA

Don't flash a so called backup image, flash an original image for the box from http://openvix.co.uk
Then, Menu - Information - About, will show you.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the image I flashed off a member, it was a very basic image, and has been a god send to get me up and running, got it from here.

Will have a check in menu when I get home.

As per the forum rules please do not post live links to other forums or sites. As for backup images, you have no way of knowing what crap the so called author has hidden inside them for God knows what reason, it would not be the first time some one has used such a tactic to gain access to another's network. Not that I am saying this is the case here but if you setup the box your self you at least know what has gone into it, if you use a backup you are hoping the other person is honest and is not out to steal your data and there are way too many people out there with such motives these days,

Ok sorry about the link, yeah I get what your saying, but I'd probably still be struggling setting it up now if it weren't for that image.

It also give me a good insight to what goes where etc.

Anyway I'm now thinking about getting a solo 2, like my Xpeed but I need something more zippy.

There are more than enough users here that would gladly help you to setup a new image, afterall that's the reason this forum exists in the first place.

I'd try a fresh flash of the image from http://openvix.co.uk first. If you find that isn't zippy enough for your needs, look at dual core boxes.
VU Ultimo, while no longer produced, 2x400 core a lot more zippy than a single core at 700+ IMO.
