    1st stupid question

Hi I'm new to this forum and have ordered my vu+solo2 I've been dabbling with satellite tv for a few years now, but have only come across the term "picon" on this site. So Dumb questions of the day are: what exactly is a picon? Why you need them?

sorry if I'm just being stupid, there seems to be lots of tutorials about where and how to install them, but I can't find any info on what they are
