Just get the best value for money, you don't need anything super fast

GigaBlue HD 800 UE Plus VIX
TM-Single VIX IT'S ALIVE
Octagon SF8 VIX (751MHz bootloader)
MARA M9
Harmony 700
DGS108 GBLAN, DIY NAS (8TB) XPEnology
1.1m dish, 0.1db Quad LNB, GTSAT DM14MG motor

2.5 drives generate less heat. As above, use what is most cost effective for you. I bought $ky HD receiver and used the HDD (3.5 but PVR HDD).
Also bear in mind HD recordings take up a lot of space. HDDs die/fail. Any important recordings can be converted and saved to an alternate location.
The "green" type 3.5 drives run a bit cooler.
The likes of a WD green 1 to 2 TB drive isn't too dear
Pointless using a 7200rpm drive really.
