    vix 1.2 problems

i have installed vix 1.2,and i can't get epg to work,i have manually imported the epg but nothing is appearing in the guides.
i understand that it puts the epg file on the hdd and loads from there.
i have 320gig external drive in one usb port and a 4gig usb stick in the other, after hours of trying to get it to work,i noticed that the box was using the usb stick as hdd and was recording to there and putting the epg file onto it,the hard drive was listed as usb, i can't find a way to point the box in the right direction.
so i removed the usb stick.
the box sees the hard drive it goes through a file check but it won't initialize and says it cant make movie folder,i don't know if this is the why i have no epg,
i am a complete novice with these boxes so explain in simple terms any solutions you have thanks
