But as you would need to format it you will lose your recordings. If you google a bit you may find how you can copy your recordings from the sky HDD to a pc. I think they ate in .ts format so you could probably view them later through the vu+ box

Just convert any media to MKV this is highly compressed format and plays great on solo2 from Hdd.
i just convert on computer and FTP to solo2 hard drive.

As for duo2 v solo2 i choose solo2,for me i only needed a twin tuner, duo2 looks nice though and i am going to get one just to have a play but it wont do anything the solo2 can not do apart from lcd

It is not important to which container you convert, as long as you use a supported codec. I hope you use H264.

Do I format the HD before I fit it into the VU+ box or does the vu box have the function to format a HD?

There is a initialize option in the image that will format the HDD to the required format but i cant think of the exact path at present and i'm not near a receiver to check.

You cannot initailse(ie format) the HDD if it is mounted already.

    To Unmount,
Blue Button > Vix > Mount Manager > Yellow (read text)

    To Format
Menu > Setup > System > Hard disk > Initialisation

You Can Only Transfer FTA Recordings From Your Sky HDD To A PC... Any Recording From Encrypted Channels, Will Still Be Encrypted On The HDD... You Can Transfer Them, But They Won't Play... (Free-To-View Channels Are Also Encrypted)

Last question before purchasing which option in your opinions will offer the best value for money:-
    1) A solo2 box at £309 + hd at £50 + a wifi at £18 total = £377
    or
    2) A Duo 2 box at £449 with build in wifi and reusing my sky box HD

I'm airing on the side of the duo2 box

If you can afford the Duo2 budget go for it.

Congrats on your box. To answer your questions

    1. A bouquet is a list of channels.
    2. CCcam is a soft CAM. If you want to watch anything other than FTA you probably need it installed. Google is your friend here.
    3. HBBTV - google is your friend and if you are in the UK you don't have access to it.

As far as plugins go there is no definitive reference, just google any you are interested in to see what they do. Remember depending on the image you choose a plugin may or may not work.
