The picons need to be in a folder named picon not picons, if your folder is named picons the image wont recognise them.

    Nope, it is not.
The LCD is a very slow device; the shortest update rate seems to be 5 seconds.

no because it's not a true LCD it can only display images which is what the LCD4linux plugin does, LCD4linux basically creates a image then passes this onto the LCD to be displayed, this is also a massively memory hungry task using 10 percent of the cpu power on it's own.

It is possible to get a TV picture (of sorts!) on the LCD display. Menu>Plugins>LCD4linux then press blue button (set on) and scroll to the very last item in the menu and enable Stutter TV. As the name implies though, it is pretty stuttery. Personally, I cannot think of any reason I would want to use it, and as previously mentioned, it does seem to be a bit of a resource hogger.

(perhaps this needs splitting off into it's own thread?)

The LCD can only display still images and not live video hence the stutter as the plugin LCD4linux has to grab a still image and port it to the LCD.

I realise that. Still, I does do what the OP was asking - display a picture of what is on the tv screen

    Nor can I.
Tbh: I find the whole LCD a bit of a gimmick, not really useful.
