Sounds about right, I get between 25 and 30 MB/s on the various external HHD's I have.

It will be interesting to see what results you get, I wonder what chipset will be in the GigaBlue dongle?

15MB/s is crap!!!!!! I'm getting 11 to 12 with boggo fast Ethernet.

The first question will be does the ViX image include the driver for LAN7500, apparently the OpenMIPS one does.

    If it works I'll test:

    1. Laptop (450mbps wifi link) to gigabit router to gigabit usb 'dongle' to internal HDD
    2. Laptop (Cat 6 cable / gigabit port) to gigabit router to gigabit usb 'dongle' to internal HDD

It's arrived, I've plugged it in, it's getting very hot ... but I can't seem to do anything with it.

I've installed OpenMips 2.0 but still no joy so I've asked for help on the German Gigablue support forum. There is a suggestion that the drivers required only worked on kernal 3.5.1

Ok - working now. I had to download the kernel package kernel-module-smsc75xx_3.3.6-r0.0_gbquad.ipk from
    Code:
    http://feeds.hdfreaks.cc/V2.1/gbquad/gbquad/
and install - it can be installed in either vix or om2. This then provided a second network interface to select in the standard menu. Turned off the internal one, turned on the 'new' one and all working

    using filezilla ftp:
450 mbps connection from laptop to router-> usb adapter gave me 120 mbps read and 85 mbps write
ethernet cable gave me a constant 255 mbps (29.7 mB/s) read and a very variable write (150-200 mbps) averaging ~ 19mB/s
CPU utilization was 30% for FTP process

using samba and windows file manger the rates were 20% lower @ 205 mbps read and 135 mbps write

NB: The USB dongle gets VERY hot

Hmmm still no sign nearly three weeks on. Not that I'm particularly bothered as everything seems fine on the 3.3.6 kernel. Unless I am missing something?

The only thing I'd like it to get is a UDF 2.5 driver so I can try playing back my BD ISOs. A 1.3 GHz dual core processor should have sufficient 'welly' to do this.

I have two boxes under my screen; the Gigablue ( dual 1.3 GHz MIPS) and an eGreat R150s (single 750 MHz RTL1186). The latter can read and display 3D ISOs with 7.1 DTS-HD sound, the former should have the raw muscle to get close surely? Both have hardware VC1 decoding

the quad will play remuxed blurays no problem, i just wish for hd audio passthrough, but i doubt we'd see that.
i doubt the iso's would play.

the quad does not have vc1 encoding. my batman bluray remuxes will not play.

ive been looking at those medi8er players from the sponsor, and i may even downgrade from the quad

Reading between the lines it seems they have driver issues with 3.8.3 for the new S2 tuners that are being released but they have working drivers for 3.3.6 (hence the new 3.3.6 drivers not so long ago)
