so, have you tried formatting it on the box?
also, what have you set in hard disk setup -> hard disk stand by after? might be worth trying changing those values.

I followed your instructions jez and it says the same as what was already there. I thought you said yours now said /media/hdd/timeshift? Mine still says /hdd/timeshift?

Re: Write error disc full on fat32 usb hdd

First of all my usb hdd is now formatted in linux ext3 not fat32 anymore and mine does say media/hdd/timeshift. If I change the parent directory to internal flash it would say hdd/timeshift. Goto Timeshift settings/Timeshift location press ok then press channel up on remote so "parent directory" folder is highlighted, press ok and you should see "list of storage devices" folder, highlight that and press ok and on mine it shows "ext hdd" and "internal flash" highlight "ext hdd" and press ok then highlight timeshift folder and save it. Thats what worked for me anyway m8

How did you do that? If the box formats the HDD, it will be in Ext4.
And it is advised to let the box format the drive.

by the way i was just doing an image backup and it failed so i deleted the backup and box crashed and stuck on boot loop, sigh it was going so well lol, so maybe i should have made the backup to a fat32 usb and not the linux usb one. I am reflashing now and setting it back up, i wondering if because i had permanent timeshift on and was doing a backup it might have been too much for the usb hdd to handle, ah well ya live and learn hopefully ill have it backup and running soon

By the box, yes, but it will still be Ext3. Anyway: better have the drive re-initialised by the box, as Ext4 is better and the settings will be specifically for large files.
