I have a Gigablue quad which also uses a 2.5. I bought a 1tb off-the-shelf Seagate portable HDD and removed it from its housing - works perfectly. Only consideration for the quad was actual size of the hard drive as there is limited space due to a locking fitting. I also used an-off the-shelf Buffalo 3.5 on my Duo with no issues.
Just don't get a 7200 rpm - it's overkill. 5400 rpm is ideal for video recording/playback.

Yes pretty much any 2.5" drive should work, im using a selection of drives I ripped out of my old laptops and they all work.

Great thanks guys.
Hi i have fitted in my box a 1.5TB western Digital Green drive. Only word of warning is my friend who fitted it said it was very tight and had to bend a resistor slightly....

Most drives will work.
Stick to 5400rpm drives to reduce vibration and noise.
Stick to 9.5mm drives to allow max clearance for heat......
I just bought a Samsung spintpoint HN-M101MBB 1TB which I will be using to replace my existing smaller drive today. I went for the 1TB because it is only marginally more expensive than the 500GB models
Is it easy to fit the hard drive, the Samsung spintpoint HN-M101MBB is £54 so a saving from buying a solo2 already fitted
Very easy.

Will the solo2 only take a 2.5" drive or will it also take a full size HD ?
2.5" only internally. You could connect an external drive of any form factor.

I am going to buy my solo2 on Tuesday
I have a old laptop hard drive, which I am thinking about using to save a little cash for now.
I am not clued up on speed and wether this will be fast enough, or big enough only being 320gb
its a western digital,WD3200BEVT-75ZCT2
It says
interface SATA
Capacity 320gb
RPM 5400
Firmware T2
does any one know what if anything can be achieved with this.
When I am out I shall set it to record to HD channels at times
Thanks
Dan
yes that should do what you need it to do, although it may fill up a little fast if your archiving recordings rather than deleting them once viewed.

Thats a bummer, I only want to set it up once, so once you are transcoding and storing a bit on the solo 2. Will i need a 1TB hard drive then?
i use a 200 gig HDD on mine and it's perfectly fine for my needs as i tend to delete content once i have viewed it, or transfer it to one of my other boxes that has a larger HDD. really depends on what exactly you want to do with it.
