150,000 Irish homes will go dark on 24th

There has been a late surge in Irish homes switching to digital TV, with 50,000 making the changeover in recent weeks before the old analogue signal is switched off. But this leaves 150,000 of the 200,000 homes that will be reliant on digital TV needing to make the switch before the analogue TV signal is turned off on October 24th.

Communications Minister Pat Rabbitte said that the latest figures showing high numbers switching between mid-August and mid-September were encouraging, and did not include those who made the switch after a special publicity campaign two weeks ago. A Millward Brown Lansdowne survey showed that awareness of the digital switchover has risen to 94 per cent of the population.

Digital switchover packages, including installation of an aerial and Saorview box, are available from €219
