Do you happen to know what the warranty period is? I thought the EU stated that all appliances have to be 2 years now?

In the UK it's 12 months, Europe i believe it's 24 Months.

By law retailers in the uk only have to provide a 12 month warranty they can at their own discretion extend that if they choose to but there is no legal obligation there.

Yes and no, the goods have to last a reasonable length in relation to the price paid, so if your £3000 telly dies after 14 months you can use the sale of goods act but its your electric tooth brush probably not

But the EU directive says 2 years for all EU countries and regardless of the sales of goods act, the UK is still part of the EU,..... So print off the directive and stick it in front of the shop ... They initially will not believe it but if pushed may take a different view .

The uk have opted out of a lot of EU directives and this to my knowledge is one of those, so regardless of what the EU states it's still 12 months in the UK.

pour coke on it,(coke loves pcb boards) call insurance company and heres what you say "my 3 year old knocked his drink over it" yadda yadda, trust me it works i did this on a tv and a laptop both were replaced by insurance company

just for the record both the tv and the laptop were already dead

and dont feel bad about doing this, i was told this trick by a met copper of all people.

Phoenix is correct, we opted out of it as the sale of good act provides greater protection.

Google it and you will find we are right.
