Google Nexus 7 UK price and release date

The Google Nexus 7, Google's first tablet, is on sale right now -- read on for the UK price and release date.

The Google Nexus 7 costs just £160, and you can get hold of it in the next month. There are two models: one has 8GB of memory and the other has 16GB for your movies, music and other files. The 8Gb model costs just £160, and the 16GB model costs £200.

You can order either tablet now from Google Play, the online store for apps, games, movies and other Android stuff. Once you place your order, the Nexus 7 will be delivered in mid-July. The exact date is yet to be confirmed.

You also get £15 of credit to spend in the Play store, as well as a copy of Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Er, thanks, I guess?

The Nexus 7 has a 7-inch 1,280 x 800 high definition display, powered by a Tegra 3 quad-core processor. There's a front-facing camera for video calls, but as expected no main camera. Google promises up to 9 hours of video watching on the Nexus 7, and it'll even give you a whopping 300 hours between charges -- as long as you don't use it, obviously.

The Google Nexus 7 was unveiled at the big G's annual developer conference Google I/O in San Francisco today alongside Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the latest version of Android software. The Nexus 7 is the first to feature Jelly Bean, packed with new features including the clever Google Now personal assistant.

The 7-inch tablet is a rival to the Amazon Kindle Fire and Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7 -inch rather than the market-conquering iPad, in terms of size and price. With the Kindle Fire yet to cross the pond to Europe, the Nexus 7 has a great opportunity to become the boss of small, cheap tablets. I'm seriously impressed by the price, especially as most Android tablets at this pricedon't have access to Google Play and are missing Google's core apps.

What do you think of the Nexus 7? Will you be buying one? Tell me your thoughts in the comments
