Philips reveals HMP2000 Smart TV add-on box

Philips has revealed its HMP2000 Smart TV add-on box.

The gadget brings services such as Netflix and LoveFilm to HDMI-supported television sets without internet connections.

LoveFilm and YouTube can be accessed instantly through dedicated remote buttons. Other pre-loaded services include Channel 4's 4oD and the BBC iPlayer.

Philips' HMP2000 Smart TV box measures in at 90 x 50 x 100mm. The device offers higher quality video output than Apple's Apple TV, boasting 1080p compared to its rival's 720p.

Other features include WiFi support for streaming content and connectivity with a networked PC, and USB support to play content directly from a pen drive.

The Philips HMP2000 Smart TV add-on box retails at £49.99.
