Download always switches to radio screen

Maybe this is normal however when it downloads new data, it switches to a radio screen. Is there any way of making it download and update in the background, without interruption of the tv channel I'm watching?

This is exactly how it is supposed to work, you can opt for another EPG method such as rytek that does not use this method but it can be unreliable.

Also why do you not set your EPG to download at a time when you are likely not to be watching TV for example mine is done at 04:15

Arr I'll do it that way then. Is that what the sly boxes do then when they update as well?

No idea what you mean by 'unreliable': I've been using XMLTV-import for years and never had any issue with it. Works on the background, either in standby or when watching TV.

Rytek can be very unreliable due to the way the files are hosted, there have been many many occasions where the hosts have gone down for what ever reason leaving people without a EPG for sky uk for days on end. thats why i use a combination of both.

Ahh indeed, that has been a problem for some time, as a result of the huge number of people using this facility (hence a bandwidth problem).
But this has been resolved (in cooperation between Rytec & our own Andy) in a very professional way: data is now available on multiple websites, and the download process checks multiple sites. Since this has been introduced, there have been no problems whatsoever.

well there have been multiple reports on multiple sites this very morning that disagree with that statement.

How do you setup this rytec on the vix box to work alongside cross EPG? I like how you said you use a mix of both.

go to the EPG setup screen

    menu> setup> system> EPG.

scroll down to XMLTV-importer then set your prefered download time and set the daily automatic import option to enable. you can keep all other options at their defaults. now press blue and tick all the sky uk options then press green to save. Then press manual to download this EPG again it will take a few minutes, but once done you should have a fully working EPG setup.

    LOL,
That post only shows that the importfunction of ViX has not been used, hence not it's advanced quality's.
By chance I have been downloading XMLTV dozens of times this morning, and not even 1 problem observed.
As far as I know only PLi & ViX use the advanced methods.
