Immediate Media Co, the company formed following the sale of BBC Magazines last year, has launched new iPad apps for Lonely Planet and Top Gear magazines.

The Top Gear Portfolio app is designed to take users on "an automotive trip around the planet".

It features images of the world's most exotic cars taken by the magazine on past photoshoots in various locations. The app is priced at £3.99.

The Lonely Planet Dream Trips app features nine different top trips on iPad, offering insider travel tips and know-how from the magazine's staff.

Also priced at £3.99, the app includes exclusive photos not available in the print version of Dream Trips, along with interactive maps pinpointing key locations on Google Maps.

Immediate Media Company publishes Top Gear and Lonely Planet magazines on behalf of BBC Worldwide, following private equity firm Exponent's £121m deal to acquire the BBC Magazines division.

The company was formed out of the merger of BBC Magazines, Origin Publishing and Magicalia in November 2011.

The Top Gear and Lonely Planet apps follow other recent BBC app launches from Immediate, including Focus and Good Food, with more slated to arrive this year.

"These apps are a great example of our digital ambition and creativity," said Immediate Media's publishing director for mobile devices Rebekah Billingsley.

"Dream Trips is the first ever Lonely Planet magazine app and is perfectly suited for the tablet - the sumptuous high definition photography is enhanced by the iPad's back-lit screen."

The Lonely Planet Dream Trips and Top Gear Portfolio apps are available now via iTunes.
