VU+ Duo hardware compared to sky or virgin

    Hi. Guys.

I am just wondering how the hardware of the vu+ boxes compare with the boxes of sky and virgin.

Is the ultimo better than these or is there still some work to be done?

    Cheers

It's like comparing eagle and pigeon.
Those boxes do different thing so you can't really compare them.
Ultimo ,it depends what you want from box.

The PQ is the same if not better than the service providers box other than that what you can do with them and the versatility is miles better.

As I have no SkyBox I can't compare, but I'm pretty sure the hardware quality of the VU's is hard to beat.

When i get in from work in the morning i'll grab the model number of my sky HD box and see if i can find the specs sheet to compare it hardware wise to a duo and let you know.

It's quite simple really, Sky boxes are for watching Sky. That means they only work on 28E and they have no DiSEqC control. Also, if you want to use them to make recordings, or to play recordings, you have to pay a charge to Sky (every month). If all you want to do is watch tv from Sky you should be fine with a Sky receiver, but if you want to watch channels from other satellites and terrestrial, and don't want to pay to make recordings, and want to have a proper 7-day EPG, then a Vu+ (or other E2 receiver) is probably the only way to go.

    You're now comparing specs.
Nothing wrong with that, and it gives a clear picture of what you can expect, but TS asked about differences in hardware quality. And you won't find them in a sheet........
