HTC Flyer 7" Tablet with Android 2.4, 16GB, and Wifi
HTC’s long-awaited entry into the world of tablet computers has arrived with the new HTC Flyer, and it’s ready to make its mark with some great technology on-board.
The HTC Flyer is a slim, tough and stylish device, with an aluminium all-in-one body ensuring it doesn’t weigh you down when you’re carrying it around. Weightwise it’s similar to carrying around a paperback book, and measures in at a similar size too.
The HTC Flyer has a 7” touch sensitive screen, which displays images and videos in vivid detail, thanks to the device’s support of Adobe Flash and HTML 5 that makes websites look exactly how they would on your PC.
Above the screen is an internal camera, which can be used to take self-portraits or for video chats. On the back of the HTC Flyer is a 5MP camera and video recorder that captures video in 720p HD quality.
Inside the HTC Flyer’s svelte body is a super-quick 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 1GB of RAM, making web browsing and multitasking a breeze over a Wi-Fi or 3G internet connection. Searching through the internet and viewing you favourite content is a pleasure, thanks to the HTC Flyer’s multi-window interface, which shows content in different panels, so you can easily jump between different content and see it all on-screen at the same time.
Zooming in and out of photos, scrolling through pages and playing games downloaded from Android Market can all be done by pinching your fingers together and running them across the screen.
However, the HTC Flyer also comes with a clever pen, which extends what you can do on your tablet. It uses HTC Scribe Technology, so you can pretty much write on anything you see. This includes anything from web pages and photos to note pages and eBooks. The pen uses digital ink, so you can write notes (in different colours) in meetings or lectures, rather than having to use the on-screen keyboard.
You can even record lectures and meetings using the audio recorder and make notes at the same time. Then if you’ve written a word you can’t make out when it comes to reviewing your text, the HTC Flyer can automatically replay the audio that was recorded at the exact time you made that note. Other clever features include the ability to sync together all of your notes across your HTC Flyer, PC and smartphone, using the Evernote cloud service.
The pen can also be used to annotate work and web pages. Then once you’ve added your notes you can send the page via email. This feature is great for sharing work with classmates, sending work documents to colleagues and adding a touch of creativity to your photos.
Alternatively, you can use the pen to create a masterpiece on your HTC Flyer while you’re on the train home from work. However, if you’re not a budding Picasso, you can always sit back and enjoy music and movies on your tablet computer. The HTC Flyer comes with HTC Watch, a movie streaming service that lets you see trailers on your device or download the full film. The HTC Flyer comes with 32GB of internal storage and room for an additional microSD card, so you can have a compact device with enough content to keep you entertained on your travels.
Anyone who has used an Android smartphone can experience a familiar interface on a much bigger screen, with HTC Sense built into the HTC Flyer. The home screens can be customised with your favourite applications, and give you quick access to the clock and weather forecast. With the magic pen, you can even give your home screens a unique touch, too.
