View Full Version : Help with Picon installation
I have had to do a complete clean rebuild to openvix 6.2.002 and not able to use any of my backups and cannot remember how I installed picons, although I assume installation must have changed since I did it a few years ago. Is it best to put the file in flash, or USB?
I have downloaded a picon file from downloads, the picons are showing on the TV screen but not on the left panel of the Duo 2 box. Have manged to get the smaller middle screen working.
Any guidance would be much appreciated.
Looks like I may have posted this in the wrong section, now moved please ignore

Your existing picons should just work with linux4lcd. Please post your debug.
I can't see how that plugin could ever work.
It checks for picon using "Renderer.Picon.getPiconName", which returns a fully qualified path and then concatenates that to another folder path.
Have check and does not appear to be a debug log, could this be due my clean install, or could I be looking in the wrong place?
I do still have picons in media / usb.
I have also downloaded picons from downloads, which appear in the EPG, but nothing showing on the box. The middle screen I have managed to configure and is working ok.

Have you enabled debug logs and restarted? Mr Servo had re-added it after he had inadvertently removed it. But that was before the branches were merged. If it is not working, we can get him to look at it again.
These are the most recent logs from media/USB/logs
Have managed to get logs working again and attach current debug log dated 4/6/22. Can confirm I have picons loaded in media/usb/picon and hve change the path to the same.
Let me know if you need you need any additional information.
Thanks for your help.
did you set the right pad in LCD4 config ? I also use reference picons
I had a system crash whilst editing LCD4, attached
Thanks for looking at it, could you explain a bit more about what you mean (right pad)?
picons are located somewhere and in LCD4config you need to set the right directory where your picons are.Mine are simply in root .

Thanks for the reply, mine are located on my USB, and in the correct diretory in the LCDconfig settings ( media/usb/picon ) thats where they were before i did a clean install, and have always been OK.
This is the latest debug file, I have also posted a crash log.
Thanks

In LCD4linux options, there is another option for debugs. Please enable that option and upload the debug log from the plugin.
Also, I have installed the plugin, I can't see where to set the picon path. Am I missing something or is it because my box does not have display?
For my reference

@bellejt
Where have you set these paths. Please only post details about the options in the plugin menu.
config.PiconPath=/LCD4picon/
config.PiconPathAlt=/media/usb/LCD4picon/
the link was given but topic starter did not reply to that.Wil simply remove it.

To answer my own question, in the main menu, when you press the Blue button " Set On >> ", there is another menu where you can set the path.
I have noticed that when I change the settings to USB it reverts back to HDD after a re boot.
When you download picons from the download site are they automatically stored in Media usb or hdd?
I am begining to think this may be a hardware issue, although picons where working perfectly prior to the clean instal.
If you download picons from OpenViX feeds they will be stored wherever you specify before saving.

Once you have saved the picon location, please select the extended debug logs, and re-upload it. Zap/select a few different channels before you get the log.
If you want to take clearer/better screenshots instead of using your camera, guide is here: https://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?44054-How-to-take-screen-shots-How-to-attach-files
Is this log you want attached.

You are getting these, so it is finding the picons, a bit too many I think.
14:37:16 Piconsearch ['/media/usb/picon/1_0_19_1B1D_802_2_11A0000_0_0_0.png', '/media/usb/picon/BBC One HD.png', '/media/usb/picon/BBC One HD.png', '/media/usb/picon/bbconehd.png', '/media/usb/picon/BBC One HD.png', '/media/usb/picon/1_0_1_1B1D_802_2_11A0000_0_0_0.png', '/media/hdd/picon/1_0_19_1B1D_802_2_11A0000_0_0_0.png', '/media/hdd/picon/BBC One HD.png', '/media/hdd/picon/BBC One HD.png', '/media/hdd/picon/bbconehd.png', '/media/hdd/picon/BBC One HD.png', '/media/usb/picon/1_0_1_1B1D_802_2_11A0000_0_0_0.png', '/media/usb/picon/1_0_1_1B1D_802_2_11A0000_0_0_0.png', '/media/hdd/picon/1_0_1_1B1D_802_2_11A0000_0_0_0.png', '/media/usb/picon/picon_default.png']
14:37:16 load new Picon /media/usb/picon/1_0_1_1B1D_802_2_11A0000_0_0_0.png
14:37:16 Push: 0.218 (0/0/0) Wait: 0.006
You are also getting these, which I think are the problem
14:37:17 Error write Picture
Please uninstall the picon pack using plugin menu and use MK ones or different one.
Have already done this, did notice their was way too many picons. so deleted and downloaded a new set, but has made no difference. I know it is finding them as they are on EPG. I have come to the conclusion that my VU Duo 2, which is very old is faulty,I notice their was another member who had the same problem, and it it was down to a couple of diodes which he replaced and fix the problem, so repair or a new box has to be my next option.
Thanks very much for your help, appreciated.
I know it is finding them as they are on EPG.Since when does the EPG use LCD4Linux?
probably the box finds the picons and they are visible in EPG. Try to find the directory and see if the picons are referece mode expl 1_0_19_1B1D_802_2_11A0000_0_0_0.png and not channel names. Maybe that is the problem. Do you push save in the webif LCD4 ?
So does LCD4Linux require Service Ref Picons?
earlyer versions needed them.I do noty know if there has been a change cause I always use service reference picons (adapt my picons with picon manager)

LCD4Linux will use both SNP and SRP. The log above shows the ones it is finding. The screenshot I posted was also using SNPs.
If I remember correctly, there were 471 instances of "Error write Picture" in psionguy's log. To me, that is a software issue with creating the pictures on the LCD screen. We had another thread some time ago where the Ocram picons were not being rendered.
Anyway, the OP is convinced it is a hardware fault. We don't know which picon pack he is using.

I am happy to try different picon packs, any recommendations from the download section?
There are picons on the feeds.
why don't you put screenshots from your LCD4 here so we can see what is wrong ?

The majority of picons on the plugin download server are built from Ocram sources. Unless, someone else with a Duo2 confirms that ocram's picons work with LCD4Linux, I once again repeat my advice to not not use Ocram's picons. This is while you are investigating your issue.
MK's picons are here:
https://www.openvix.co.uk/index.php/downloads/picons-channel-icons/mk-400x240-snp-picons/
https://www.openvix.co.uk/index.php/downloads/picons-channel-icons/mk-220x132-snp-picons/
They have not been updated for a long time, but let's start off with confirming if those work.

Downloaded MK 400X240 installed in media/usb/picon, removed previous picons via downloads. New picons showing on EPG but still not showing on the VU Duo 2 screen.
maybe read and do what was said in #40. No is is pure gambling.
This has been done, if you check back on the comments, happy to do it again if it would help.
the only image I see is with the directory.No images about settings as I showed.The problem is probably in there. Maybe copy a setting from LCD4 examples to your box and see if it works then.
Ps : do you see anything on the LCD4 screen ?
See attached, taken via Openweb
is the main set as :
63999
Sorry was unable to read your setting file to do a comparison, please find attached mine.
setting must be internal VU+ duo 2 LCD 400x240

That did it, many thanks. I wonder if using the picons from downloads was the main issue, where do you get your picons from for your Vu Duo2 ?

Pleased to report that the MK picons are working. all though are limited to freesat, but certainly better than a blank screen.
i have made my own set picons from different downloads for the bouquets I have.

@Psionguy
You have changed two things and it now works. After you changed the settings it worked. So the picons may not be the issue.
@Bellejt
Can you please try the picons from the plugin server.
@abo ; will try the both sets picons tomorrow if possible and come back with FB.
just tested the picons MK and working fine on my LCD4
