Apple Inc's much awaited mobile operating system iOS 5 has been in existence for a week only, and two jailbreaks for the operating system with more than 200 new features are already out in the technology world to jailbreak iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad and iPod touch on iOS 5.
A tethered jailbreak, dubbed Redsn0w 0.9.9, is released by Dev-team while an untethered version is out from FastUnlockiPhone.com named FastRa1n 0.5.
The only said difference between both the jailbreaks is that Redsn0w does not allow any jailbroken iOS 5 device to boot by itself. To reboot the device, the user must connect it to the Redsn0w installed computer. But FastRa1n 0.5 allows the device to reboot for any number of times.
The only common thing between the two is that none of them runs on devices with A5 processor as the processor doesn't have a bootroom-level exploit yet.
With two versions from two different sources are out to jailbreak the new iOS 5, many speculations are there related to the authenticity of the jailbreaks.
Even though the tethered Redsn0w seems to be completely authentic as it is free for download and comes from the Dev-team which has been making programs to jailbreak iOS for time and time again, the credibility of FasRa 1n is in questions.
The first doubt strikes iOS 5 users when FastUnlockiPhone.com charges $24.99 for the untethered jailbreak. And the second one comes when they read a comment from a Dev-team confirming the untethered jailbreak a fake.
The member, who uses the name @comex on Twitter, confirmed that the software is fake, and, therefore, we advise that readers do not pay the $24.99 price, as there will be a free, reliable alternative available soon.
The IBTimes has received comments agreeing that' FastRa1n' is fake, with one commenter saying: "This is not a legit jailbreak, usually companies like this wait till the REAL jailbreak is available, rename it and sell it as theirs. Don't be fooled..."
Another commenter agreed: "Yeah, willing to call this one fake too, definitely don't pay for a jailbreak, a free (and proper) one will be out soon enough."
However, there are comments that confirm the fine process of the untethered jailbreak.
"Guys... let's get this strait, this does work, it is a scam, but it's only a scam because its making you pay for something that will eventually be free," a commenter named Hayman Brendon said.
Three days ago Joshua Hill or P0sixninja, a member of the Dev Team and a prominent figure in the jailbreak community, had said that FastRa1n v5.0 is the most amazing jailbreak yet and it can unlock and jailbreak iPhone 4/3Gs 4.3.5/4.3.4/4.3.3 and the latest iOS 5.
Another awesome part, it's an untethered userland jailbreak; i.e., it allows one to jailbreak iPhone 4 iOS 5 via Safari browser just like JailbreakMe 3.0, he added.
With two versions about FastRa 1m from two members of Dev-team put the untethered jailbrak's credibility in a condition where people can't trust it, but as it is the only untethered iOS 5 jailbreak available right now, people will surely consider Joshua Hill's comment also.
