How to update Kodi from 16 RC (release candidate)

I have looked through Kodi settings and can't see how I update Kodi itself.

I notice the current version I have is the release candidate, how do I upgrade to the next version and keep all the settings.?

I fear that if I have to uninstall Kodi and reinstall the next version I will lose all the customisation's I've made to Kodi.

As Kodi backup is not supported Via Vix yet (only via manual FTP) I don't want to chance upgrading until I know I'm not going to erase everything I spent hours sorting out.

Does anyone know what's the best way?

there is no automatic update. You have to wait until VU or another individual compiles a new special VU version.
