No the other way around, the Edimax is connected to my router via WiFi and provides an Ethernet connection to my box:

    Code:
    https://www.edimax.com/edimax/merchandise/merchandise_detail/data/edimax/global/access_points_n150_indoor/ew-7228apn/

Ok - so you're using it as a bridge/repeater, rather than an Access Point. If it was an Access Point it would have a hard-wired connection back to your router. I still think you have a misconfiguration in the Edimax which is not compatible with the router. Check carefully the IP settings on both.

I tried adding PurE2 image to the multi-boot and that works fine with the same setup, so must be something to do with the way OpenVix obtains the feeds?

It would seem to be an OpenVix quirk all right. I must say that I'm out of ideas as regards your particular setup.
