Manual restore of settings older than 4.2 comments

I followed Abu's guide for manually restoring settings from images older than 4.2 and it went extremely well. However there were a couple of places where I had to deviate from the guide as follows :-

1 I have a wi-fi network and so when it came to the wizard running after flashing the new image, I allowed it to run cancelling the restore and scan prompts until the network wizard appeared at which point I entered the settings and connected the box to my network.

2 When I used PuTTy to connect I got a security alert :-
    WARNING - POTENTIAL SECURITY BREACH!

The server's host key does not match the one PuTTY has cached in the registry.
This means that either the server administrator has changed the host key,
or you have actually connected to another computer pretending to be the server.
Question - is this message a direct result of the upgrade to 5.0.017?

I used TelNet instead and issued the init 4 command from there.

3 When it came to restoring plugins the commands

    opkg install packagegroup-base-smbfs-client
    opkg install packagegroup-base-smbfs-server
for installing the Samba plugin failed so I used the Menu > Setup > System > Network > Samba setup.

Incidentally, the commands now work since the plugin has been downloaded via the menu.

I do not have cams installed so could not use that part of the guide.

I had a quick check and everything seemed ok so I did a settings backup.

Thank you very much for the guide, Abu.

When you connected by putty you used ssh (default) so the message you received was correct. Any old key saved on your pc would be outdated. There is no need to use ssh - as you found telnet is adequate.

It would happen after any USB flash, unless you backup the key and restore it.

This was not a USB flash, but through Image Manager as per Abu's guide. Maybe I've never used PuTTy much before, but I seem to remember SpaceRat advocating SSH.

Anyway thanks for the responses, guys, I understand it now.

... USB flash and an image manager couch flash are identical (do the same thing).

Anyway there is no problem - Abu's guide assumed that one would connect by terminal client (telnet) using putty (or other program) - you connected by ssh instead.
