That's using sky sd though pal, I want to use fta/ftv with virgin and not sky. Would using that plugin mean 1-5 would become sd instead of the HD I currently have?

As it's a manual download and update you can also adjust the Custommix to your preferences
There are only 5 FTA channels on Cable, there are no free HD channels. There are slight variations in numbers on Sky. Adapt the mix file for your needs.
Might be an idea for you to start your own thread if you encounter issues.
Is MUTV HD gone too? possibly swap in mutv from cable?

That's what I thought as well but it was on a Sky corporate site. Seems strange to put a Sports channel in Entertainment but it is available with an Entertainment sub, so they may be trying to get more viewers that didn't know it existed to try and get them to upgrade to Sports.
Are any changes needed for the new sky sports numbering?
The VM Numbering changed around midnight, actually before Sky. The custom file does need a couple of changes, I assume dsayers either has done or will do soon his plugin.
Personally, I decided to keep Sports Mix in sports and put it at 410, moving Eurosport 1 & 2 down one place
