Upgrading OpenViX from 3.9.7 to 4.2.001

    I use a TM-NANO-3T running OpenVIX
    Kernel 3.9.7 Build 147 Version Apollo 2015-02-03

I have not updated for quite a long time. I realise I cannot backup the settings.
Sorry if these questions seem a bit basic but I am a bit nervous about doing a complete build.

After updating to version 4.2 do I need to do anything with Positioner Setup menus?

Will I need to set dish limits again?

What essential settings do I need to check on my existing settings before I start the build process?

    Thanks

Ideally, your motor limit should be done by hardware, not software.

You will have to set everything up again. There are ways to simplify things. How confident are you at using linux commands and FTP?

There is a guide in my signature. Try issuing/pasting this command (provided you are not recording):

    Code:
    init 4 && sleep 10 && init 3
Your receiver should stop and then restart.

Do I enter this command directly into my Nano 3T unit, or do I have to use my computer via network to connect to Nano 3T. The user guide says something about downloading Putty????

You do this on a program downloaded onto your PC.

I have downloaded Putty onto my computer.

Into the PuTTY Configuration screen I selected Telnet. Then I entered my IP address for my TM Nano T3 which is 192.168.0.11. I then clicked on Open.

    I then got the following:
    Welcome To OpenVIX for tmnano3t
    OpenVIX Apollo tmnano3t

    Tmnano3t login:

What should I enter here? Should I have a user name and password?

I am really sorry for all these basic questions. But I am keen to learn, although it might be a slow process.

Thanks very much for your help so far. Much appreciated !!

OK, good. You are on right track. Brilliant that you are detailing what you have done and where you are at.

    username = root
There is no password by default.

Are you not able to see pictures in the guide I referred you to?

(This is just a training/learning exercise, once you are OK/confident with it, we can proceed).

Just create a settings backup from the receiver then transfer the file to your PC. You can open this file with 7-zip. Once you have done that you can navigate the file and copy all the files you need back to the same directory on your new image.

Success !!! I followed your instructions and typed in the above command into PuTTY and it rebooted my TM Nano 3T box.

What would be the next step that you would recommend? Thanks for your help so far.

OK, so you are now able to issue commands to the box. Pasting would have been easier.

Now, your next lesson is transferring files by FTP. See this:
    http://www.world-of-satellite.com/sh...l=1#post415499

In box 3, you should be in /etc/enigma2
In box 4, look for a file called "settings".

1/2 are up to you. I suppose making a folder called "Receiver files" will be prudent.
Transfer the "settings" file to your "receiver files" folder.

Once you have done this, attach the settings file here. If you are not happy about this, let us know. Make sure there is no email address in there.

I have copied my Settings file from Receiver over to PC. When trying to attach Settings file I get the message Invalid File, not sure why. So I am trying to send the file as a zipped file using winzip. Hope it reaches you ok.

    OK. Good work.

Make a settings backup, just in case there are files you need later.
Make an image backup so that you can revert to it in case things go wrong.
If you have have softcam config files, save those to your PC too.
Save your timers.xml and autotimers.xml file to your PC. They will be in /etc/enigma2

Then download and flash 4.2 002. Do not setup your receiver after that. I will post back with more instructions. See here if you need to. The restoring bit does not apply to you.

    I'm located in Southampton, Hampshire

I can currently access services in the arc from Turksat 42.0 East through to Thor 0.8 West, although I was able to access Hispasat 30.0 West until very recently.

My system was installed a couple of years ago by a local satellite company and they made such a mess I ended up having to get Horizon out from Basingstoke. Horizon was a bit unfamiliar with the Technomate boxes but did manage to get everything working for me going from Turksat through to Hispasat.
