I only open the ports when i want to stream. But no one can open the ports except me due to it being user name and password protected

I have tested the PI2s and they are capable of sustaining a 26mbit crypt/decrypt connection via a udp tunnel. Even though there are about 16 hops between the two and a latency of 70ms between the UK and Spain the SD channels are almost faultless, maybe .5 second glitch once an hour, HD is more glitchy, about 20 seconds of little glitches per hour. It seems to need 4mbits for SD and about 8-10mbits for HD.

The one thing I haven't found yet is how I can control the buffer sizes at the vu+ zero end, I'd trade a slightly slower response zapping for a solid HD picture.
You sound like you know exactly what you're doing? Good, cos I don't!
Therefore, I was hoping you might be able to help?
I'm setting up an Xtrend ET8500 downstairs and an Edision OS Mini upstairs. I have a multiroom Sky dish cable that'll fit to the edision but no VM cable, as I was hoping to get Virgin channels wirelessly.
Andy_Hazza mentioned RSCC, but what do I need in order to get VM channels wirelessly?
sorry, I'm very new to this digital receiver world......

Install remotechannelstreamconverter plugin on Edision input the IP of the box downstairs select the bouquets you want and it will download them to your box and that's about it you will need a very good wifi signal if that's what you're using, I use powerline adaptors personally. i just use xmltv importer to populate the epg

I don't have any experience of VM cable feeds but presumably the basic principle applies.

You would install RSCC on your OS Mini, when you configure the plugin you give it the ET8500 ip address and the login details. It then retrieves the bouquets from the ET8500 and creates a set on the OS Mini, the difference is they are actually streaming channels so when you select them the OS Mini asks the ET8500 to stream it the channel just as a pc would via openwebif. As long as your network/wifi can provide 8mbits you're good to go.

Give it a try and you'll see what I mean, if you don't like it just delete the new RSCC created boquets.

Post 23 is dangerous. DO NOT DO IT!

Asking for trouble. People can control/use your receiver.

grantdavey91. Your post is very useful for people who want to access their box from outside their network. But it does have its risk to unscrupulous people accessing their box. There have been numerous posts on different forums of this happening. I don't know the percentage of boxes that are hacked but I would think it's very small but I wouldn't want to take that chance. To access your box securely there is a post on this forum regarding setting up ssh on the box. Other than this buy yourself a router that has its own internal VPN setup.

You can search for wide open door setups pretty easily. One of our testers opened ports for someone else to work on the receiver as he did not have the same setup. He forgot to secure it, someone wiped his NAS as the satellite box provided an entry point.

Enigma2 is not built with security in mind.

Here is a good guide by Pembo which will afford some security:

There was also recent post on how to setup a VPN

can you please stop posting it for the world to see please

i really need to look into networking more, as i clearly don't understand how easy it is for someone to get in

just tell me you didn't change or delete anything and i'll stop panicking

i've turned off my port forwards now
