Yes. My ET8000 has never reinstalled my bello skin or samba after every fresh flash even after reinstalling setting and plugins from my settings backup.
My vu+duo 2 reinstalls everything ok though.
    No big deal though.

Next time you try it, please upload the logs. Exit FIW, enable debug logs, restart and then use backup manager.

No. Image Manager does not allow you to update. Image Manager allows you to flash a different image. It also allows you to save an exact copy of the image as it is on your receiver.

If you are using Image Manager, you would.......
Using Backup Manager, create a settings backup (latest images do this when you flash using Image Manager. Best to do as a precaution if not sure).
Using Image Manager you would download an image,
Using Image Manager flash/restore the downloaded image.

As a separate process after it reboots, you can restore your settings as well as plugins. Provided the plugins are avialable on the plugins server, they will be re-installed.

If you wanted to update your image, you would perform a software update. This is not possible between branches.

I always do this abu... but the skin never restores, nor does Samba enable, and my cams and 'special files' never reappear? I have to do this manually every time...

Excuse my ignorance, but what does 'Exit FIW' mean? Also, where do I 'enable debug logs'? Never had to do any of those before, but have always managed to get my ET8000 working back again so guess I haven't bothered. Would be nice to not have to manually reinstall all the bits each time, so any help appreciated!

Exit FIW = Press exit, do not complete FIW. Leave FIW. Abort FIW.

The request for logs is to establish the cause so that the problem can be fixed. Teh logs are not required for restoring, they are just to debug the problem. Please refer to section 7.1 of the vix manual for logs settings.
