What do you mean by "wont go past the boot screen"?
As you can ftp in, are there any crashlogs in /home/root/logs/ ?

If you have a serial cable, maybe rs232 logs of the boot process could help identify issue?

In Putty, make sure com port matches the one on your PC. Change baud rate/speed to 115200.

Boot up and you should see the log and it could tell you what the problem is.

Why wont it work from usb?

    Have you tried and re-tried??

Make sure there are no other USB sticks in, make sure the USB stick is formatted correctly and is bootable. Then follow the instructions.

Hard to tell from those pics, but your install is corrupt with required files missing.
    Is the flash completely full?

Easiest solution is going to be reflashing, using a correctly formatted USB stick with image extracted properly on it.
