    AV sender or second box?

    Hi folks.

I have an xtrend et8000 and have been looking at av senders to watch it in bed.

I see you can use a second enigma2 box to watch the first box upstairs but not sure how it works. Is this the case? Can someone shed light on how to do this and what I will need. AV senders are about £50. Are these not very good to use as they dont seem to be recommended on here.

    TIA

AV senders are poor quality. You could look at the HDMI Extender over Cat5/6 option. Or you could buy a second box and use a plugin called Remote Channel Converter, I think its called that, not 100% as I am away from my satellite receiver at the mo.

Get a cheap enigma 2 box running vix, as long as you can connect it to your internet you can stream from your main box, no tuner cables required. You can even do it wirelessly so long as your signal is fine, and also home plugs are fine too.

Instead of rcsc plugin, you can also use the fallback tuner option, which means that you can setup your remote (client) receiver with exactly the same bouquets etc and if you leave the tuner(s) on the client as not available it will fallback to the main (server) receiver.
Don,t forget you need a spare tuner on the main receiver or neither will work.
Either way it gives you a very flexible system, where people can watch what they like on the main receiver, whilst others can watch whatever they like on the remote receiver.

honestly, I use a cheep rf modulator from ebay £15, plug it to the extrend via scart, then send that signal through pre existing rf cable to the bedroom tv. retune the bedroom tv the frequency you set the modulator at (I use 30 as it gives me the best pic quality) and hey presto it works fine, its only an old 20" lcd so the quality is perfectly watchable. and using "dreamdroid" app on my android handset I can change channel over the network in my home.

Just how I have it set up currently. works for me, and pic quality is v. good. and the whole setup cost £15, bargin.

You'd be very lucky if it is VCR quality. Also your setup requires an analogue tuner in the TV. Do they even exist anymore?

Well the quality is far better than vcr, and as I stated it was AN OLD 20" lcd tv, so yes it had a analogue tuner.

The majority of tv purchased in the last few years, all have duel analogue/digital tuners in my experience.

I don't understand why people bash rf out so much. It works fine? Used it for years when using sky equipment, and still very happy now.

Let's be honest, who really needs 1080p full hd in a bedroom?

But as I said, it's my setup, it works fine for me, and several family members, and it's only £15,

Er everyone needs full 1080p in the bedroom. you will more than likely already have a quad lnb so only need to drill 1 hole from you bedroom and run a cable to the spare connection on the dish. (you don't need to be satellite engineer) its straight forward. you would still need to purchase a 2nd box (sub £100) which supports Vix mount the hard disk to the box downstairs so reordings can be watched from anywhere.

This way you get full 1080p upstairs and downstairs.

Another potential option which I use myself is a FireStick (or similar android type reciever) with the Vu+ player (or similar player) sideloaded. This is connected to my secondary TV and I stream / transcode channels or recordings from my main box.

For the amount of use it gets compared to the main receiver, it suits my situation fine.

Would this be possible with the chromecast as I have a few knocking about not being used?
