very old and very confused newby

Hello all, I recently purchased an Extrend ET8000 in order to be able to record films and other interesting items from both terrestrial and satellite feeds. Most things appear to work but I have found the manual provided and a much more comprehensive guide downloaded from this site, difficult to understand. With the help of articles from other members I can now record programs and even find a listing of the only program I have recorded. I assume that to play this recording I must highlight it then press OK but nothing happens. What have I missed? there may be something in the setup that is incorrect but I am not clued up enough to check this. Can someone help please with what I am sure must be a simple operation.

Are you sure you're looking at the file list & not the timer list?
Try other buttons on your remote for file list.
