Thumbs up OpenViX 3.2 Release thread

The worlds first Enigma2 team to bring you 1920x1080 full HD skin support, are proud to introduce a brand new ViX image for all OpenViX supported receivers

OpenViX 3.2 is based on the OE-Alliance v3.2 core. You cannot perform an online update to it if you are currently on Hades or any older image. You can flash image using USB method or using Image Manager.

You should be fine to restore a settings backup after you have flashed the image, this will restore most things to how you had it before.
    DO NOT RESTORE PLUGINS

There are many guides to flash/restore. Here is another
    http://www.world-of-satellite.com/sh...p-and-Restores

So what is different in OpenViX 3.2 then?
OpenViX Hades build 018 is the final build in the Hades series.

We are moving back to a numbered system for images. The numbering for the image comes from the actual branch of the OE-Alliance the image is built from. So as time moves on and things get updated/new branches created, we will bump the numbers to suit. Simple.

As with previous images, the main differences are core of the image or the OE (Open Embedded). This has undergone a lot of changes, updates and fixes. As a user you should not notice many differences between previous images and Openvix 3.2 (i.e. there are not many functional differences.)

    Features/Updates

    OE-CORE update to 27th July 2015
    GCC update to 4.9.2
    GLIBC update to 2.2.1
    Bitbake update to 1.27

    Updated nfs
    Enabled IPTV recording

    VU HbbTV is now working

    Known Image issues
Dreamplex - Some users in certain setup's may have issues.
20150830: Restoring settings from previous image causes an issue with Samba, fine without restores. Fix is below.

    Known Plugin/Receiver issues
Older receivers with lower amounts of memeory struggle with downloading OpenTV EPG data using Cross EPG downloader. Use a swap file in such cases.
Some 3rd party plugins may not be currently compatible with OE-A 3.2 core, streaming plugins may require their respective author's to add dependancies for GST 1.xx.

    Creating a complete image backup

It is possible to create an exact copy of an image. You then then re-flash it by USB or Image Manager. This is handy if you want to try another image and want to be able to revert back to your old image without having to set everything up again. Or just want to have a copy that you can flash back incase something goes wrong.

This is covered in section 8 of the Vix Manual
    http://openvix.co.uk/openvix-builds/...20Vs%201.1.pdf
As well as this PDF guide
    http://openvix.co.uk/openvix-builds/...0ViX%203.0.pdf

You must have a storage device connected to the receiver. The image uses the device mounted as /media/hdd as the default. (It does not matter whether it is a USB stick or normal HDD, we are talking about mounts)

A brief guide to the process.
Blue Button > Vix > Image Manager > Green Button (New Backup)

If you have more than one storage device connected and want to change where you save an image to
Blue Button > Vix > Image Manager > Menu
Highlight the backup location and scroll left/right.

    Create a Settings Backup

We all have different preferrances and like to customise how certain features in the image work/appear. You can save your preferences as well as any other files on receiver to be restored later. Your channel data and cam files will already be backed up.

Blue Button > Vix > Backup Manager > Green Button (New Backup)

The default locAtion where the files are saved to is /media/hdd/backup/
If you have more than one storage device connected and want to change where you save an image to
Blue Button > Vix > Backup Manager > Menu
Highlight the backup location and scroll left/right

If you want to select additional files/folders to save
Blue Button > Vix > Backup Manager > Menu > Yellow (choose files)
    Note:
If you have just flashed an OpenVix image and it finds a settings restore file in the default location, you will be asked if you want to restore it during the setup process (First Install Wizard, FIW for short).

You can manually restore at anytime too.

Download an Image from server using Image Manager

You can use the Image Manager to download an image and then flash it (Couch flashing).
Blue > Vix > Image Manager > Yellow (Downloads) >

The image will be downloaded to the default location: /media/hdd/imagebackups/

You can also download the latest image from www.openvix.co.uk and can transfer the zipped image file to the same location using FTP.

Restore settings during First Install Wizard

After the first few steps of the First Install Wizard, (language, video) you will be asked if you want to restore your settings.

Settinsg restore should always be fine. Plugin restore can cause issues.
DO NOT PERFORM A PLUGIN RESTORE WHEN SWAPPING IMAGES

If there are unexplained problems after flashing the new image, try again without a restore.

OpenViX 3.2.027 will be released for VU+ Solo4K today. Still work in progress a few known issues listed below:

    • ViX Imagemanager not working for flashing of backup images or new images.
    • LCD, few screens are still working in progress, such movie/media playback screens. There are a couple of additional OE-A LCD skins in the plugins feeds that work very well. Menu > Plugins > Press Green to download plugins > Display > You will see two OE-Alliance LCD skins, both work well.
    • Information > About screen, 'Installed' date showing incorrect.

Please note the VU+ Solo4K uses a new Arm CPU, a lots of adjustments have had to be made to our Enigma 2, there may be bugs/issues that we haven't found yet. If you find any bugs please report HERE.

Finally I'd like to say thank you to all in the team who made this release possible, it's taken a lot of time and testing to ensure other models were not affected by adding support for the Solo4K.
